The UIB has spun off 11 companies in order to exploit university research results

UIB laboratoyThe University of the Balearic Islands has spun off 11 companies in sectors such as biotechnology, information and communication technologies, food and health, renewable energy, and tourism innovation. Its aim is to exploit commercial and industrial results of the university research. The spin-offs promote the transfer of knowledge and scientific research results to business through its direct application in production processes and its marketing. These are initiatives of public support to technology-based innovation. The spin-off companies base their competitive advantage in the application of scientific and technological knowledge, enabling them to deliver innovative products and innovative services, taking advantage of untapped niche markets with high added value. In addition, they enhance the technological fabric and promote economic development, generating highly competitive business, encouraging the creation of high-skill occupation, providing an added value to the industrial environment, and promoting the employment of researchers trained at the University.

The creation of these companies was carried out with the support of the RESET (Entrepreneur space and support to new spin-offs) programme, created by the Balearic Islands University-Company Foundation  (FUEIB). RESET main aims are the promotion of entrepreneurial culture within the university community and the support to the creation of companies based on knowledge generated at the UIB.
