The UdG presents itself to seventy secondary schools

The UdG’s Promotion Unit has presented the university range of degrees to seventy secondary schools in Catalonia. This has brought our university closer to more than three thousand high school students. “How can I get a scholarship?”… “Where can I live if I study in Girona?”… These are just two of the questions asked by high school students when we presented our university in their school. The Promotion Unit members answered all their questions; they gave students a general picture of the UdG, of all they can study, future careers, possible scholarships, or life at a hall of residence.

This fieldwork is very important. Among all the students registered at the UdG, just one fourth of them comes from Girona city. Therefore, before a magnet such as Barcelona we need to compete for students, to attract them, to explain them the advantages of studying at a university like ours. We need to go to their place and let them know that small universities have great advantages, such as closeness to classmates, to professors, and even to the city where the university is settled which is full of opportunities.

These ideas and concepts are transferred to high school students by the Promotion Unit members. Answering their doubts about access options or the environment they will find is as important as explaining the offered degrees or the possible future job options, something that nowadays worries young students.

In short, the job the UdG’s Promotion Unit has done this year is visiting seventy secondary schools from Barcelona and Girona and transferring the special features of the degrees offered by the UdG to more than three thousand students.
