The Rectors of the UdG and the UIB, Anna Maria Geli and Montserrat Casas, present in Paris the Euro-Mediterranian Tourism and Water Campus
Dr. Montserrat Casas and Dr. Anna Maria Geli, rectors of the University of the Balearic Islands and the University of Gerona, respectively, have presented in Paris the Euro-Mediterranian Tourism and Water Campus (e-MTA Campus), developed in aggregation with the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the Catalan Institute for Water Research (ICRA). The presentation took place in the framework of the 5th meeting on Orientation Lines for Spanish-French Cooperation in Higher Education, which has been conducted at the University Paris V.The e-MTA Campus model bets for sustainable tourism and water as global challenges to be faced, and promotes the internationalization of the talent, preferably with the Pyrenees-Mediterranean Cross-Border Higher Education and Research Group (PRES-PM), which is formed by the Universities of the Balearic Islands, Gerona, Perpignan-Via Domitia and Pierre et Marie Curie Paris VI, the latter through the Oceanographic Observatory of Banyuls. The project is presented in the 2011 call of the Campus of International Excellence by the Spanish Ministry of Education. In this regard it is noteworthy that the proposed cross-border campus PRES-PM was the highest rated proposal by the international committee of theCampus of International Excellence Program in 2010.
Moreover, in this meeting, the Spanish General Universities Secretary, Màrius Rubiralta, and the French General Director for Higher Education and Professional Insertion, Patrick Hetzel, have signed a Declaration of Intent on cooperation for the promotion of cross-border campus and international bridges between the two countries.
Some of the objectives are the implementation of joint Spanish-French training in the three university levels, the development of partnerships with institutions of research and innovation at regional and national levels, the promotion of knowledge transfer operations and innovative partnerships with industry sectors, and the mobility of students, teachers, researchers and administrative and services staff.
It is also remarkable the kick-off of cross-border campuses embedded in the respective national programs: Campus of International Excellence (Spain) and Poles of Research and Higher Education (France). It is in the framework of these initiatives that the PRES-PM outstands as the most advanced of the Spanish cross-border campuses.
