The Obra Social “la Caixa” and the Euro-mediterranean Tourism and Water Campus presented the program “University Campuses and Economic Growth”

The program makes a commitment to knowledge as an alternative for the socioeconomic revival

The main objective of the pilot program “University Campuses and Economic Growth”, promoted by Obra Social “la Caixa “, is to highlight the role of universities, research centers, technology centers and innovation and transfer structures in the economic development of Spain.

The pilot program is committed to reactivate four projects of Campus of International Excellence. These projects were launched in the framework of the Campus of International Excel·lence initiative, developed by the Ministry of Education during the 2008-2011 period, among them, the Euro-mediterranean Tourism and Water Campus.

In the context of the agreement signed, the Euro-mediterranean Tourism and Water Campus will design a strategic plan to develop a sectorial model of economic growth through the transformation of the existing portfolio of knowledge generated in the academic environment. This strategic plan will specify an operational plan to promote effective policies and facilitate growth in the sectors in which the Campus e-MTA has become strong and spanning a regional or cross-border influence, both in the medium and long term.

The strategic plan will be developed with public and private actors (university, administration, companies), which constitute the aggregations promoting the Campus e-MTA. Under the responsibility of the coordinator university they will be invited to join the program targeted to the tourism and water sectors.

The strategic action plan will be approved in the course of the coming months. Later, the Campus representatives will present the findings at a public meeting to be held in the month of May, with the participation of the advisors and targeted sectors.

Besides the Euro-mediterranean Tourism and Water Campus, three more campuses are part of the pilot program “University campuses and Economic Growth”: Andalucía Tech, Campus Iberus, Campus of International Excellence Ebro Valley, and CEI Canarias. Tricontinental Atlantic Campus, with a total of ten universities involved and thirty-five public and private actors.

Dr. Màrius Rubiralta, Professor of the University of Barcelona, will direct the program “University Campuses and Economic Growth”
