The lecture series Climatology, Meteorology and Oceanography kicks off the scientific dissemination program Our daily science


nostra cienciaThe cycle of scientific dissemination Our daily science gets underway on November 16 as part of the cultural program of the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), organized by the Cultural Activities Service. that the program aims to bring various fields of knowledge to citizens, and show how to scientifically investigate our everyday environment.The first activity offered within this program is the series of lectures Climatology, Meteorology and Oceanography. The inaugural lecture of the cycle is entitled “Physical Oceanography”, taught by Dr. Damià Gomis, Professor of the Department of Physics at the UIB. It will take place on Wednesday November 16 at 19 pm in the auditorium of the building Sa Riera, in Palma (Mallorca).

Lecture series Climatology, Meteorology and Oceanography

  • November 16, 2011: “Physical Oceanography” by Dr. Damià Gomis Bosch, professor of the Department of physics at the University of the Balearic Island (UIB). Professor Gomis will describe the different ways to study the sea movements.
  • November 23, 2011, “Numerical Weather Prediction at very high resolution” by Dr. Climent Ramis, professor of the Department of physics at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB). Dr. Ramis will explain physical-mathematical models with very high resolution that allow the study of small-scale weather.
  • November 30, 2011: “Climate change and tourism in the XXI Century” by Dr. Sergio Alonso, professor of the Department of physics at the University of the Balearic Islands. Dr. Alonso will present climate projections for the twenty-first century in the Mediterranean Sea and its implications for tourism.

All lectures will be held at 19 pm in the auditorium of Sa Riera, Miquel dels Sants Oliver street, number 2, Palma (Mallorca). The lectures are free and with open access.
