The Institute of the Environment has published Hombre vs. Mar

The Institute of the Environment of the UdG has published Hombre vs. Mar [Man vs. Sea], the second volume of the collection “Cuadernos de Medio Ambiente” [“Notebooks of the Environment”]. The book gathers most of the papers presented at the 2009 and 2010 editions of the International Summer School of the Environment (ISSE).

The Institute of the Environment organizes the International Summer School of Environment (ISSE) each September. In the two last editions, held in 2009 and 2010, the focus of study was marine biodiversity in relation with human health and activities. The publication presented, entitled Hombre vs. Mar, gathers many of the papers presented in them which shaped up the ISSE sessions.

This publication has been coordinated by Josep Lloret, Margarida Casadevall and Marta Muñoz. After reading it one can deduce the human impact of fishing exploitation, harbour construction or beach regeneration on marine ecosystems. Also, the effects of tourism, pollution or the climate change, among others, all of them phenomena causing often irreparable damage on the richness and abundance of marine communities. In their papers, experts express their opinion that negative pressure on marine ecosystems increases the risks to our health and also reduces our possibilities to enjoy many of its benefits, both the ones we know and the ones that are left to discover.
