The Group 9 of Universities creates Univalue, a company to transfer scientific knowledge to society

univalueThe Group 9 of Universities (G9) has established Univalue Valorización, SL, in Bilbao. Univalue is a new entity to transfer scientific knowledge generated at the universities to the bussiness world. This is an unprecedented inter-university initiative in Spain, and provides a quick and direct way for knowledge transfer.The rector of the UIB, Dr. Montserrat Casas, along with other G9 authorities, participated in the ceremony, which took place General Assembly of G9 Rectors, in the University of the Basque Country. Aware of the difficulty to transfer university research results to the socioeconomic environment, the Group 9 has create Univalue to make easy the leveraging and transfer of research results to market. The company has two main lines of activity: first, to quantify economically patents and technologies, and second to market products conceived in the universities.

General Assembly of Rectors

The G9 General Assembly of Rectors was held at the University of the Basque Country. Its Rector, Iñaki Goirizelaia, occupies the rotating presidency of the Group since July 1st. The rectors have learned first-hand the current state of work being developed by the seven sectoral committees that currently make up the G9: Academic, International Relations, Research, Lecturers, Students, Managers, and Cultural and Social Projection.

Likewise, the rectors have exchanged information on other G9 projects as its Shared Virtual Campus, the largest intercollegiate online campus in Spain in number of subjects (79 in the current academic year 2011-12) and in number of enrollment (more than five thousand last term); the publishing house Genueve Ediciones, the first inter-university editorial Spain, with a first collection of Humanities, Social Sciences, and the market; and advances in the cooperation program that the G9 developes in Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

Group 9 of Universities

Group 9 of Universities (G9), created in May 1997, was born with the aim to integrate universities that are the only public ones in their respective regions. Currently, the group is formed by the universities of the Basque Country, Cantabria, Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura, the Balearic Islands, La Rioja, Oviedo, Public of Navarra and Saragossa. The Group currently has the widest offer in Spain in terms of undergraduate and graduate courses and has more than 200,000 students enrolled.
