The Doctoral School of the University of Girona wants to change the UdG into a center of excellence for the training of Southern Europe researchers

On the 18 November Anna M. Geli, rector of the University of Girona, is opening the Doctoral School. Dr. Ignacio Cirac, director of the Division of Quantum Optics Theory of the Max Planck Institute, will deliver the inaugural lecture “Quantum simulations of many-body systems”. The chair of the School will be Dr. Miquel Solà.

The Doctoral School, set up by the University of Girona Board of Governors in September 2010, is a unit that aims at changing the University into a center of excellence for the training of Southern Europe researchers. Dr. Miquel Solà, its chair, explains that together with the founding objective, it has the challenge of internationalizing the research carried out at the UdG, promoting the students’ mobility and boosting its capacity to attract researchers from other centers. Therefore, the School has been set up to promote the course offer in the fields in which the UdG is strong, precisely, those included in the Euromediterranean Tourism and Water Campus, for which it has been awarded the Centre of International Excellence recognition. Among the actions it will carry out, the School will offer detailed advice on the funding possibilities available for researchers so as to retain and attract talent, at the local, regional and international levels. In fact, the School has a connection with the master’s and degree programs, something that reinforces the commitment for a dynamic, entrepreneur and socially-conscious University.
