The application of Life Cycle Assessment in the business sector to be discussed in a conference at the Science and Technology Park

On the 21st October the Science and Technology Park is hosting a conference focused on the application of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) in the business sector, a methodology that assesses the environmental and ecological effects associated to the life of a product. Governments, businesses and consumers are becoming more and more concerned about the importance of the environmental effects caused by products, and by the processes and systems necessary to make them. In order to satisfy them, engineers developg tools that can assess these effects and suggest strategies to minimise them. Consolidated methodology
Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a consolidated methodology used in compliance with the ISO Standard 14040 that is applied to many business sectors since the sixties of the 20th century. This tool improves the production process and minimises the amount of waste generated. The implementation of LCA is fairly easy thanks to the existing IT guides and tools. However, in order to make a good use of it, its field of application must be clearly defined, and also one must be aware of its limitations. Precisely, these are the aspects that will be discussed at the conference held at the Science and Technology Park of the UdG.

A conference organised within the framework of the Ecotech-Sudoe project
The conference has been organised within the framework of the Ecotech Sudoe project, in which eight universities —from France, Portugal and Spain— are participating. Thus, it is an interregional project funded with FEDER funds that is aimed at integrate sustainability and competivity. The fact that both the ICRA and the LEQUIA group from the UdG are participating proves that expert knowledge in water treatment is a powerful instrument to achieve the goals of the project.
