Within the field of research, Campus e-MTA stands out for its efficiency and high level of internationalisation it has already achieved. The University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) and the University of Girona (UdG) appear year after year among the top 20 Spanish universities in all the relative indicators in the SCImago Ranking:

SCImago position 2013 International collaboration Average scientific quality Publications in 1st quartile
UIB 8th 15th 6th
UdG 15th 13th 19th

The UIB, with 18 departments, 6 institutes, 130 research groups and 20 sponsored professorships, and the UdG, with 24 departments, 11 institutes, 119 research groups and 21 sponsored professorships, are fully committed to high quality research and transfer of the knowledge obtained from this to society.

Not only the main R&D&I work of the universities involved contributes to this, but also does the presence of the ICRA (Catalan Institute for Water Research) and the CSIC (Spanish National Research Council). The CSIC is the third largest European research institution (SCIMAGO 2010) and has 135 research centres, three of which take part in the e-MTA Campus (two joint UIB-CSIC institutes in the Balearic Islands and a centre in Girona). The ICRA is a reference research centre for water and its located in the Scientific and Technological Park near the Montilivi Campus of the UdG.

Live in Palma

The university campus, located in Palma (Majorca), can be found at the foot of the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range, awarded the status of World Heritage of Humanity by the  UNESCO in the category of cultural landscape in June 2011. In addition to the university centres in Alaior (Minorca) and in Ibiza, in Majorca the Campus e-MTA has buildings in the city centre of Palma (Sa Riera, 19th Century, and Can Oleo, 16th Century, listed Cultural Interest Properties) and a Campus 7.5 km away on the Valldemossa road. It covers 922,700 m2, 37.70% of which is countryside. It offers the courses in the various fields in 12 main buildings with the management, halls of residence and sporting areas. It has a good access road and is connected to Palma city by various bus lines and by the only underground line on the islands. It is next to the ParcBit Technological Park. Palma is the capital of the Balearic Islands, located in the Western Mediterranean, and within a  two-hours flight of main European capitals. It is a city with a long tourist tradition, reflected in a wide range of equipments and services. Palma is an urban destination, ideal for short breaks or for longer stays. The Balearic Islands are visited by more than 9 million tourists each year and have become a multicultural region with thriving communities from many European nationalities.

Live in Girona

Since it was created, 20 years ago, the UdG’s development project has been closely linked with the development project for the city of Girona, in such a way that the full integration of the campus in the city has been a determining factor in shaping and developing the city in social, cultural, economic and planning terms. The Campus e-MTA in Girona is organised around three main hubs: the Barri Vell Campus, in the heart of the historical centre of the city; the Montilivi Campus, in the southern extreme of the city; and the Centre Campus, in the modern city centre. In the near future, on the University Campus and in the city itself, a fundamental strategic change will take place when the Health Sciences campus is built in the northern extreme of the city.
