Regional project on water and sanitation in Central America

Full professor Manel Poch and vice-rector and Students’, Cooperation and Equality delegate M. Rosa Terradellas, assisted as coordinators at a gathering with Central American universities in order to prepare a regional project on water and sanitation.

The participants in this initiative include Girona University (UdG), National Agrarian University of Nicaragua (UNA), National Autonomous University of Nicaragua-Managua (UNAN-Managua), through the CIRA (Research Centre of Water Resources) and the University of El Salvador (UES).

During the gathering, that took place at the end of August and was financed by the AECID, the priorities of Nicaragua and El Salvador in respect of water sanitation were analysed, with the purpose of putting together an integrated action about this issue in four years’ time. Preliminary work was submitted to the National Water Authority (ANA), the Ministry of Environment, ENACAL and the AECID itself. All these institutions agreed on the fact that the project is a great opportunity and on the need for carrying out the proposals presented, related to training, research and knowledge transfer.
