New Edition of eFlors: augmented reality applied to the exhibition Girona, Temps de Flors

eFlors is an initiative of the Communications and Distributed Systems Group (BCDS) of Girona University which, in collaboration with the Girona Town Council, is aimed at offering a free service to help locate the various spaces of the exhibition Girona, Temps de Flors by means of the most recent technological advances in mobile devices and in the use of the technology known as augmented reality.

Augmented reality is an emerging technology in the field of information technologies that combines the real world with computer generated data and contents (virtual reality) in which graphic objects and multimedia contents are combined with image sequences from the real world that have been filmed in real time. The goal of this technology is to increase the information we receive from objects we can observe in the real world, by adding information, graphics and multimedia objects that belong to virtual environments -like the internet- to the view of these objects.

Some members of the Communications and Distributed Systems Group have developed a service that, by means of an augmented reality application for mobile devices called Layar, shows information of the various spaces of the exhibition Girona, Temps de Flors.

This service will start being available from the start of this year’s edition of Girona, Temps de Flors, on 8 May.
