Lluís Mundet, dean of the Faculty of Tourism, attended the TV3 program Àgora, devoted to the tourism tax
The TV3 program Àgora has organized a debate to discuss the tax that the Government is planning to implement. The dean of the Faculty of Tourism has participated in the program as an expert.
The debate has revolved around the implementation of the so-called tourism tax, which the Government intends to introduce for short hotel stays. Several Government took part in the program, eg. director of Tourism Marian Muro, as well as representatives of the hotel and services sectors Joan Gaspart and Francesc Carnerero. The positions, concerning a tax that comes at a time of economic crisis, have been conflicting.
The intervention of Lluís Mundet focused on highlighting the importance of the location of Catalonia as one of the most relevant in the world and said that, if the tax is implemented, the resulting revenues must be used to promote tourism but also to meet the needs of affected municipalities, in particular, to support teaching and research in tourism.
