Hands-on lessons aboard the oceanographic research vessel Odon de Buen

Students in the course of Aquatic Ecology (biology studies) and in the Master in Marine Ecology of the University of the Balearic Islands have received hands-on lessons aboard the oceanographic research vessel Odon de Buen, owned by the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO) and assigned to the Balearic Oceanography Centre (COB).

Students have done an oceanographic survey in which they have collected physical and chemical water data and samples of planktonic and benthic communities outside the Bay of Palma. UIB students have learned to use the ship’s scientific equipment and advanced methodologies in oceanographic research under the guidance of Professor Gabriel Moya, Department of Biology, UIB, and Ana Morillas, Balearic Oceanographic Centre.
