ii. Strategic objectives

The general objectives of the e-MTA Campus are as follows:

  1. To respond to local and global challenges in terms of development and sustainable tourism and water management and ensure that in the future both industries continue to be drivers for growth, creation and spreading of wealth and offering new opportunities.
  2. To consolidate the Campus’ international scope in teaching, research and knowledge transfer in its four Lines of Specialisation.
  3. To increase possibilities for creating jobs in industries related to tourism and water services and new technologies.
  4. To enable networking among those in the region that need to respond to the challenges posed.

Based on the e-MTA Campus’ aims and the general objectives indicated in the previous paragraph, the e-MTA Campus’ specific strategic objectives are as follows:

  • To boost the development of the Pyrenees- Mediterranean, Cross-Border Research and Higher Education Group (PRES-PM) along with the Universities of Perpignan Via Domitia and Paris VI (Pierre et Marie Curie University) through the Oceanographic Observatory of Banyuls-sur-Mer.

This group is a crucial tool for the recruitment of international talent and students, in particular in the key fields of sustainable tourism and the environment, including the study and management of water (for which the International PhD School is being prepared).

  • To increase the commitment for innovation and development of Sustainable Tourism and Water, strategic sectors for the Balearic Islands and Catalonia, promoting exportation of know-how within the scope of sustainable tourism and water management.
  • To increase the presence on the map of large international scientific collaborations with high quality contributions that bring basic and applied research to levels of excellence, headhunting and seeking resources and consolidating the fields in which the e-MTA campus has gained its international prestige.
  • To convert the e-MTA Campus into a headhunting centre for both professionals and the best postgrad students.
  • To open channels of communication, developing and encouraging the use of information and communication technologies as a transversal aspect of each of the focal points in this project. This would mean that the conditions for access to the campuses could be improved and the problems resulting from a lack of continuity in the physical locations of the project’s institutions could be overcome.
  • To increase the economic impact of the e-MTA Campus, enjoying the social benefits of a sustainable economy, improving employability by converting the setting of the campuses into the optimum framework for the international excellence model by implementing infrastructures and managing equipment and resources and broadening economic and social relationships.
  • To improve research funding by increasing the programmes that promote such activity, adapting infrastructures and increasing the programmes that add value to them.
