Establishment of the Agri-Environmental Research and Water Economy Institute (INAGEA) approved

The Governing Council of the University of the Balearic Islands has approved the establishment of the Agri-Environmental Research and Water Economy Institute (INAGEA), a joint institute formed by the UIB, the Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands and the National Institute of Research in Agriculture and Food Technology (INIA).

The INAGEA focuses in one of the most dynamic areas in the landscape of current research and the results of research in this area is key to the technological and industrial development in the immediate future. The main objective of INAGEA is to integrate knowledge from physiology, agronomy, hydrology and ecology to provide insight into actions that encourage more efficient use of water for plants, crops, gardens and natural vegetation.
This new joint research institute will be located temporarily in the area of Plant Physiology, Department of Biology, UIB. The headquarters of INAGEA will be in the Balearic Research, Development and Innovation Center, now under construction in ParcBIT.
