Conference on ICT and Health in Catalonia

The Girona University (UdG) Scientific Park, together with the collaboration of the TicSalut Foundation, is preparing the 2nd Conference on ICT and Health in Catalonia. What is new in this 2nd edition is the attendance of two guest regions: Languedoc-Roussillon and Midi-Pyrénées.

In May 2010 the first Conference on ICT and Health took place in Catalonia, as a result of a joint initiative of the UdG Scientific Park and the TicSalut Foundation, an institution of the Catalan Government that has the mission of fully integrate the Catalan health system in the knowledge society. The conference had the participation of eleven universities and twenty-seven research groups, and more than forty projects were presented related with the lines of action of ICT and health.

Second Edition with novelties

This year’s edition is featuring interesting novelties. On the one hand, several French companies and institutions are participating, and this will help promote interaction between key agents in ICT and health of Catalonia and France and will favour new opportunities for both territories. On the other hand, the presence of research groups will be much higher, since more than eighty groups from eleven universities in Catalonia have been called to participate. As for UdG, VICOROB, the BCDS, the GiLAB and the MICE are participating. Also, the duration of the conference has been extended to two days in order to carry out new activities.

The sessions will revolve around three themes and will approach strategic issues such as the promotion of citizens’ health in current population scenarios, higher efficiency and effectiveness of care processes by introducing ICT in them, and a better understanding of e-health paradigms in the knowledge society. Also, special prominence will be given to B2B (business to business) spaces in which the various agents –both from research groups and companies from the sector- will be able to make themselves known to each other.

The objective of the conference is to boost visibility of key agents in the sector and, at the same time, to build a platform for knowledge transfer which, based on identifying   the needs of the demand, facilitates the joint work of the business, research and healthcare sectors to converge into high added value solutions.
