Tourism will be sustainable

Información actualizada el 1 October 2011

The tourism of the future is sustainable tourism: better integrated in the environment and adapted to the landscape, more closely connected to the local identity, kinder guest-host relationships, less resource consuming, more itinerant, more fluid, more flexible and more energy efficient.

A unique opportunity to design an environment of collaboration

Información actualizada el 1 October 2011

The Campus of International Excellence is a unique opportunity to create an environment of collaboration that augments the good will and resources of each of the collaborators.

Such an environment requires a sharing of core strategies to shape a new reality: one that acts intentionally to create synergies, to establish common guidelines for action. From a geographic point of view, the CIE is capable of establishing dialog between distinct territories with unique characteristics which they have decided to combine in a common project. From the same perspective, the objectives of the CIE initiative are similar to those sought by the Landscape Observatory of Catalonia, of which I am the director. They are based on proposals made by public entities working for social progress and include remaining attentive to changes in our environment, using rational intervention approaches and achieving better quality of life for citizens,.

Joan Nogué is the director of the Landscape Observatory of Catalonia, and a full professor of Human Geography at the UdG.

Tourism is one of the fundamental aspects of the Campus of International Excellence proposed by the University of Girona, largely because it is one of the most important assets of the Girona region. From the Grup Costa Brava Centre, which comprises the Unió d’Hostaleria i Turisme Costa Brava Centre, the Costa Brava Centre Cooperativa, Costa Brava Verd Hotels, Petits Grans Hotels de Catalunya and La cuina de l’Empordanet, we wholeheartedly support the PM CIE, because it represents a firm commitment to improving the quality of our product and to strengthening the application of high quality scientific criteria to the service proposals we offer day after day: business, gastronomic, cultural and leisure. We wish to promote quality tourism with international impact and, in this undertaking, collaboration with interested members of the university community is essential, fundamental, necessary and indispensable.

Martí Sabrià is the manager of the Grup Costa Brava Centre.

From El Celler de Can Roca we have always tried to combine fidelity to our origins with a type of cuisine that seeks excellence through the refinement of concepts and the highest levels of professionalism. We apply scientific advances and use new techniques that awaken gastronomic and sensorial emotions. These efforts have allowed us to occupy a privileged place in the panorama of international cuisine. That yearning to cross the frontiers of knowledge and that willingness to collaborate also characterize the PM Campus of International Excellence, which responds to a similar challenge. In representation of El Celler de Can Roca, I received a degree of Doctor Honoris Causa from the UdG in tribute to ongoing work leading to a goal we share: to remain deeply rooted in the territory but to share resources of global importance beyond our frontiers.
