The research group on Meteorology at the University of the Balearic Islands and the European Severe Storm Laboratory (ESSL) have organized the sixth annual European Conference on Severe Storms (ECSS 2011), held in Palma from October 3rd to 7th, 2011. The application of Life Cycle Assessment in the business sector to be discussed in a conference at the Science and Technology Park

On the 21st October the Science and Technology Park is hosting a conference focused on the application of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) in the business sector, a methodology that assesses the environmental and ecological effects associated to the life of a product. Governments, businesses and consumers are becoming more and more concerned about the importance of the environmental effects caused by products, and by the processes and systems necessary to make them. A new technique developed at the UdG improves global positioning systems

Josep Aulinas has developed a new technique based on independent submaps and a global map. This global map contains the relative transformations between the submaps, which are updated when previously known zones are revisited. They are then fused to maintain the correlations between the vehicle and the landmarks. Using submaps reduces the calculation cost and improves the reliability of the final map. Ampliar +

Dr. Montserrat Casas and Dr. Anna Maria Geli, rectors of the University of the Balearic Islands and the University of Gerona, respectively, have presented in Paris the Euro-Mediterranian Tourism and Water Campus (e-MTA Campus), developed in aggregation with the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the Catalan Institute for Water Research (ICRA). The presentation took place in the framework of the 5th meeting on Orientation Lines for Spanish-French Cooperation in Higher Education, which has been conducted at the University Paris V.
