LEQUIA doctoral thesis presents optimisation strategies for the 7 urban WWT plants with MBR technology in Catalonia

Sara Gabarrón Fernández will present her doctoral thesis “Diagnosis, assessment and optimisation of the design and operation of municipal MBRs” next 16th May at UdG Science Park. The thesis was directed by LEQUIA professors Dr Joaquim Comas and Dr Ignasi Rodríguez-Roda.

University and industry analyze innovation in food, gastronomy and tourism

The UIB hosted a debate on Gastronomy, Tourism and Economic Development: New opportunities, in collaboration with the Triptolemos Foundation and the Network of Agri-food Campuses of International Excellence

The University of the Balearic Islands organized the debate Gastronomy, Tourism and Economic Development: New Opportunities, a dialogue in which experts from the food and tourism sectors discussed new opportunities for economic development within the framework of the alliance between gastronomy and tourism. The coordinator of this debate is Dr. Andreu Palou, Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Director of the Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Nutrition and Biotechnology at the UIB. Aqualogy and Universitat de Girona present an online post-graduate on wastewater treatment

Aqualogy in a joint effort with the University of Girona, present a post-degree of specialization in wastewater treatment. The objective is to provide knowledge on advanced management and planning of urban drainage systems, as well as the operation and maintenance of these kind of infrastructure.

Dr. Andreu Palou receives the XXIII DuPont Science Award

Dr. Andreu Palou, Professor of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and Director of the Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Nutrition and Biotechnology, University of the Balearic Islands has been awarded the DuPont Award XXIII Science.
The jury DuPont 2013 has unanimously decided to grant the award for his scientific contributions in the field of molecular nutrition, the system of regulation of body weight (obesity ), leptin and the relationships between diet and epigenetics (nutrigenomics and custom nutrition) the diet/disease mechanisms related to food safety and effectiveness and functional foods, and the identification of health claims on foods and novel biomarkers for the conduct of European health claims in food. According to Professor Santiago Grisolia, jury chairman DuPont Award, “the scientific solvency of Professor Palou is more than proven, but I am very interested in his disclosing ability to value work in science within the productive fabric, that is a plus that benefits the scientific community in particular and society in general, especially in these times.” Ampliar +
