Researchers at the IMEDEA (CSIC-UIB) study how to stop the deterioration of the Portocolom marine ecosystem

A scientific study conducted by researchers at Mediterranean Institute for Advanced Studies (IMEDEA, CSIC-UIB) reports that the combination of local factors due to human pressure and the gradual global warming endanger marine ecosystems in Portocolom (Felanitx, Mallorca). One of the observed factors for diagnosing health status of the port is oxygen. An investigation of the UIB about body fat and obesity control gets funding from the Ramon Areces Foundation

The Ramon Areces Foundation will fund a research project led by Dr. Maria Lluïsa Bonet, from the research group in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Nutrition and Biotechnology – Nutrigenomics at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB). The aim of this research, which will be held at the Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Nutrition and Biotechnology (LBNB) of the UIB is to discover whether specific nutritional interventions in early stages of life determine epigenetic changes in key genes related to body fat. The state of frailty, one of the best ways to appraise the health status of elderly people

A study carried out by a team of researchers from the University of Girona and the IAS in Girona has determined the population prevalence of frailty and the mortality risk associated to it in Girona in a representative sample of people over seventy-four with no disabilities.

Around fifty students of the Tourism degree at the UIB will stay abroad during the next academic year

Another thirty students of Spanish and foreign universities will come to the UIB to study the Tourism degree / Forty-seven students of tourism studies at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) will participate in mobility programs during the academic year 2012-13. Twenty of them will do it through Erasmus scholarships and will study mainly in German universities, where students can study in English and German. Other popular destinations for Erasmus students from the UIB are Slovenia, Denmark and Switzerland, whose universities also offer studies in English. Ampliar +
