UIB launches the Executive Master on Tourism Administration

Next academic year, the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) will launch the first edition of the Executive Master on Tourism Administration, an own postgraduate program of the University. The Master is addressed to people with a minimum of five years of experience in management positions in the tourism sector, as well as entrepreneurs in the sector with at least three years of experience. This postgraduate degree is launched with the aim to become a reference master for tourism professionals and to provide them with a high-level professional upgrading. Ampliar +

 

Professionals who will increase the level of public health in our society are trained in the UIB

During next academic course 2012-13, the University of the Illes Baleares (UIB) will teach the Master’s Degree in Human Nutrition and Food Quality, in which the University of Granada also participates. This Master will provide students with applied knowledge about the techniques and material resources in food and nutrition, as well as the ability to observe and analyze the state, transformation and presentation of both raw materials and food. At the conclusion of this course, students will have appropriate training for intervening in schools, health centers and, in general, on collective diet, thus contributing positively to increase the level of public health in our society. The work “Does the sustainable tourist exist? An analysis of tourists’ willingness to pay for a sustainable destination” wins the 9th Gabriel Escarrer International Award for Tourism Studies

The Evaluation Commission of the Gabriel Escarrer International Award for Tourism Studies has decided to award in its ninth edition Juan Ignacio Pulido Fernandez, Yaiza Lopez Sanchez and Marcelino Sanchez Rivero for the work “Does the sustainable tourist exist? An analysis of tourists’ willingness to pay for a sustainable destination”. The prize is granted by the Sol Meliá Chair in Tourism Studies of the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) and is endowed with an amount of 10,000 euros. Nature publishes the findings of a study with the participation of IMEDEA (CSIC-UIB) about an iron fertilization experiment

An international study, with participation of the Mediterranean Institute for Advanced Studies (IMEDEA, CSIC-UIB) researcher Jesús M. Arrieta, shows that water blooms –massive accumulations of plankton–, can store carbon in the ocean floor and sequester a large amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) from the surface layers. This is one of the results from research conducted in 2004 in the Southern Ocean as part of the European Iron Fertilization Experiment (EIFEX), now published by the journal Nature in its latest issue. A study of the UNESCO – Sa Nostra Chair at the UIB quantifies the value of the Majorcan beaches services

A study carried out by the UNESCO – Sa Nostra Chair of the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) for company management and Environment, attached to the Economic Research Center (UIB – Sa Nostra), has measured in monetary units the recreational services, despite not being traded in the market, Majorcan beaches provide to the tourists visiting the island. The research team, knowing the affluence levels to each of the 73 beaches object of this study, as well as the attributes that characterize them, has estimated the value of recreational tourism use of the beaches of Mallorca during August. In other words, has quantified monetarily the satisfaction and well-being the tourists obtain when they enjoy the recreational services provided by the beaches. Ampliar +
