A project to eliminate heavy metals from wastewater is a finalist in the VALORTEC Competition

The technology, developed by the in the Metals and the Environment research group, involves the reduction of heavy metals – chromium VI, cadmium, nickel and lead  – using agri-food industry waste such as spent coffee grounds, corks, olive stones or grape stalks. The project was selected from among a hundred or so proposals from all over Catalonia.

Strengthening actions: Secondary school students complete practicals at the UdG

On 16 and 17 October, a group of 14 secondary school students specialising in sciences from the Santa Eugènia Secondary School (IES) completed practical sessions in antibiogram principles and methods in UdG laboratories. These practicals represent one of the specific strengthening programme vertical curriculum initiatives, which are an integral part of the Campus of International Excellence (CIE). The University of Girona is involved in the CIE through a strengthening sub-programme focusing on studies of water, and the generation of knowledge and its dissemination in that field. Together with the Montilivi and Santa Eugenia secondary schools, the University of Girona is launching a series of initiatives whose objective is the promotion and improvement of relations between the University and secondary schools. The Director of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) gains first-hand knowledge of the Campus e-MTA

During his visit to the UdG on 19 October, Emilio Lora-Tamayo met with Professor Manel Poch, scientific coordinator of the Campus e-MTA, in order to see first hand the progress made and to know the research priorities of the Campus of International Excellence (CIE).

Pere Condom, the director of the Science and Technology Park at the University of Girona (UdG), publishes an article on innovation and transferable knowledge in the 100th edition of the magazine Nota d’Economia

Nota d’economia, a publication by the Catalan Government’s Department of Economy and Knowledge, has published an extensive article by Pere Condom, the director of the University of Girona Science and Technology Park, which looks at the new context determined by the Europe 2020 strategy.
