The University of Girona and CatalunyaCaixa’s Social Projects have signed an agreement in the frameworkd of the Masters of Excellence Scholarship Programme. The master’s programs receiving scholarships are the European Master’s in Computer Vision and Robotics (VIBOT) and the Master’s in Water Science and Technology (CTA)

The agreement between the UdG and CatalunyaCaixa’s Social Projects  will lead to the awarding of a scholarship including the full tuition cost and some financial aid to students taking  the European Master’s in Computer Vision and Robotics (VIBOT) and the Master’s in Water Science and Technology (CTA). The agreement has been signed by Dr. Anna Maria Geli, Rector of the University of Girona, and Salvador Garcia, Director of Knowledge, Education and Research at CatalunyaCaixa’s Social Projects.

This is the second edition of CatalunyaCaixa’s Social Projects Scholarship Programme, an it has the triple objective of giving support to outstanding students, to high quality master’s courses offered in Catalonia, and to all Catalan public universities in general. The program aims to acknowledge talent, promote excellence and turn Catalonia into a benchmark in the field of high quality postgraduate education. All master’s included in the scholarship program have an international outreach, are taught in English, are aimed at research and have prestigious teaching staff. The two master’s selected have been validated with the University of Girona.

The European Master in Computer Vision and Robotics (VIBOT) is a European program organized by the Vision and Robotics European Consortium (VREC), composed of the University of Burgundy (France), the Heriot-Watt University (UK) and the University of Girona. This course aims to meet the current needs in the field of quality control and process automation and has been awarded the Erasmus Mundus recognition by the European Commission.

The Master’s in Water Science and Technology (CTA) aims to train professionals in the study, diagnosis and management of water and natural water systems, by  going  in depth into the required scientific, methodological and technical knowledge in depth. This Master’s will not only provide this knowledge, but also it will boost the practical aspects and the conduction of projects in collaboration with public and private organizations.

A training agreement aimed at secondary school teachers has also been signed
At the same event, the two organizations have signed an agreement for the Teachers and Science program of CatalunyaCaixa’s Social Projects, a training program for secondary school teachers that will be conducted in collaboration with the leading research centers in Catalonia.

The Teachers and Science Programme aims to improve the scientific education for secondary school teachers by promoting excellence in classrooms, and also to acknowledge  the teachers’ time commitment. The courses are open to all secondary school teachers of any scientific area who are interested in participating. However, for the allocation of places all teachers who have recommended  students from their classes to participate in the 2011 and 2012 editions of the  Young People and Science Programme will be prioritized. The program includes courses which are highly specialized and can be easily applied in classrooms, they will be taught during April and May 2012, and they will be complemented with spreading and training sessions about science teaching in schools.

The University of Girona is participating in the Teachers and Science Programme through the Institute of Computational Chemistry (IQC), which will offer the course “Introduction to the world of Computational Chemistry”.
