Audiovisual heritage and tourism in the UIB: a look at the tourist image of the Balearic Islands through photography


The Research Group for Audiovisual Heritage, Mass Media and Illustration (PAMMI) at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) hosts the Audiovisual Heritage and Tourism (I) seminar, under the research project «Construction of a tourist image through photography. The case of the Balearic Islands». The seminar will be held tomorrow Tuesday, December 20th, at the Laboratory of Historical Sciences and Art Theory at the UIB (building Ramon Llull, University campus).

Program:

  • Balearic Islands: photography, film and tourism, by Catalina Aguiló, lecturer at Department of Historical Sciences and Art Theory of the UIB and PAMMI researcher
  • Ibiza (1933-36): an approach to Raoul Hausmann photographs, by lecturer  of the University of Provence – Aix Marseille I (France) and researcher at the PAMMI Dr. Jacques Terrasa
  • The reason for the visit. Photographers in the Balearic Islands, by Dr. Maria-Josep Mulet, main researcher of the PAMMI
  • The Xavier Miserachs fundin the MACBA, by Xavier Rossell, collaborator of PAMMI and restorer of the Museum of Contemporary Art of Barcelona (MACBA)
  • Monitoring of landscape photography, by Joan Carles Oliver, lecturer at the UIB and researcher at PAMMI, and Jaume Gual, photographer and collaborator at PAMMI
  • The cinema as a means to build a tourist image. The Balearic Islands, by Magdalena Rubí, collaborator at PAMMI

Each intervention will last twenty minutes and will be followed by a discussion.

This seminar is a special action of the R+D+i project «Construction of a tourist image through photography. The case of the Balearic Islands». Throughout 2012, the research group will develop two more seminars on this topic, at the MACBA and at the University of Provence – Aix Marseille I (France).

The main researcher lines of PAMMI are the field of conservation, management and dissemination of image-based heritage, the historical development and sources for the study of comics, photography, film, graphic art and illustration, and graphic documentation of tourism.
