Active and sustainable tourism on both sides of the Pyrenees

The Res’pir Project’s third training session, covering on-line marketing and aimed at active-nature tourism professionals of the Girona region, was held in the former Sant Domènec cloister on 13 February.

The Faculty of Tourism of the University of Girona and the Costa Brava-Girona Tourism Board have jointly organised a training block for tourism professionals within the Res’pir Project, a cross-border cooperation project between the University and the City of Girona and the French department of Ariège, funded by the European POCTEFA programme.

The four main goals of the project are (1) to innovate, creating specific sustainable management tools for use by active-nature tourism professionals; (2) to train tourism professionals in the competencies acquired during the process of elaborating and implementing the tools, enabling them to join together to create and offer sustainable tourism opportunities; (3) to experiment, creating tourism infrastructures in two pilot areas in Ariège and Girona; and (4) to market the tourism offer and establish networks to bring tourism stakeholders together.

Participating in the project are the Regional Council of Ariège, the Ariège-Pyrenees Tourism Development Agency, the City of Girona, the University of Girona and the University of Toulouse II – Le Mirail.
