A researcher at the UIB participates in an international scientific expedition to determine the impact of global change in the CO2 transport in the Southern Ocean

oceà austral imedeaLuis Miguel Laglera Baquer, Ramon y Cajal researcher at the Department of Chemistry of the University of the Balearic Islands, participates in the international scientific expedition Eddy Pump, which conducts a multidisciplinary study in Southern Ocean waters to determine the impact of global change global in the CO2 transport in this area, which is of great importance for the global climate.The campaign is organized by the Alfred Wagener Institute (AWI), from Germany, and directed by Prof. Wolf-Dieter Gladrow. 50 researchers from different research organizations around the world, among them the UIB, participate in the campaign. The expedition, aboard the German oceanographic ship Polarstern, sailed from Cape Town (South Africa) on January 7, 2012, and is expected to arrive to Punta Arenas (Chile) on March 11, after two months of research at sea.
