A pioneering Master that prepares professionals able to design healthy and functional food

nutrigenomicsThe Master’s Degree in Nutrigenomics and Personalized Nutrition, offered by the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) is unique worldwide. This master includes the most demanded knowledge by industry and academia in the new fields of food and health, and it assures the best possibilities for professional projection. It aims at educating researchers and professionals in the Nutrition and Food Sciences of the XXI century, which incorporate the knowledge of metabolism, gene-nutrient interactions (Nutrigenomics) and food, with the purpose of improving diet and health and offering a new Personalised Nutrition approach; it includes education and training in Molecular Nutrition, in the design of Novel Foods with positive health-promoting effects, related contents of Food Technology and Food Safety, the potential repercussion on public and individual health, and finally an overview on recent developments. This course is an official and public course, fully adapted to the guidelines of the European Higher Education Area and giving access to PhD studies. The master includes two modules: Module 1, with the Basic Fundamentals in Nutrigenomics and Personalised Nutrition and a second module for specialization, to be chosen between two options: module 2A, research oriented, or Module 2B, for professional-entrepreneurial profiles. Module 2A students will develop a practicum or practical training and a Master’s final work in research. Also, with the aim to promote student’s mobility, a signed agreement with the CIBER network “Fisiopatología de la Obesidad y Nutrición” allows the students to perform the practical training (with a previous acceptance) in top laboratories located elsewhere in Spain. Students choosing module 2B will develop the practical training in the participating companies, which are leading enterprises (in different regions of Spain, also allowing the mobility of students) with relevant projects in development, innovation and research in the field of food and human nutrition. The duration of the practicum is 1 month.

PhD program in Nutrigenomics and Personal Nutrition

The Master in Nutrigenomics and Personalised Nutrition gives preferential  – although non-exclusive  – access to the corresponding PhD studies. The support given by excellence research networks such as NuGO, CIBEROBN and BIOCLAIMS increases student’s opportunities, easing mobility and collaboration with other laboratories and countries, while also improving chances to get a European or International Doctor Mention.
