32 undergraduate students of the Balearic Islands become scientists in the Third UIB Technical and Scientific Summer Campus


lab at the University of the Balearic Islands - UIBThe University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) organizes its Third Technical and Scientific Summer Campus for secondary students of the Balearic Islands. The campus will take place in DEMOLAB and DEMOTEC, two laboratories at the UIB, from Monday, June 25, until Friday, June 29. 32 undergraduate students will participate in the Third Technical and Scientific Summer Campus. The students will become scientists during the five days of the campus. They will perform five scientific experiments and five technical experiments in the laboratories of the University, supervised by co-op students of the Faculty of Sciences and the Polytechnic School of the UIB.The main objectives of the activity are to enhance the interest for science of secondary school students in the Balearic Islands, but also transmit to students how to work in the laboratories through practical work, encourage teamwork, creativity, ability to communicate their experiences, and connect pre-university and university stages. Among the activities young scientists will be able to do in the Third Technical and Scientific Summer Campus of the UIB are the design of a network to provide Internet and telephone services to a whole village of the Amazon, to generate images in three dimensions, to analyze proteolytic bacteria or chemical reactions of light and color . They will also take a guided tour around research installations at the university.

The Third Technical and Scientific Summer Campus of the UIB is organized by the Faculty of Sciences and the Higher Polytechnic School of the UIB, the Department of Education, Culture and Universities from the Government of the Balearic Islands and the Social Work program of Sa Nostra.
