2. F-A1b, Establishment of International bridges

Description of the action

The CEI-PM maintains a priority cross-border relation with France through the PRES-PM. Moreover, it has cultivated intense relations with Germany, Russia, Latin America and the Eurotowns network, in order to institutionalise international bridges with key countries for the development of various strategic lines of the CEI-PM (particularly Germany in the Physics, Computing and Applications line, and Russia and Latin America in the Tourism Sustainability and Water lines); explore the possibility to establish new relations in the theme and territorial areas considered prioritary, and to foster the development of joint patents.

Bridge with Germany: The relations are channeled mainly through various Max Planck institutes (Dresden, Hannover, Bremen). The three relations will be reinforced, particularly by creating a Max Planck International Centre for the development of physics of complex systems between Dresden and the IFISC, Institute for Cross-Disciplinary Physics and Complex Systems (CSIC), and the CEI-PM — Max Planck relation will be insitutionalised by a framework agreement. In addition, there will be an exchange of postdocs and grant holders, joint research schools and workshops will be organised and joint Phd programmes will be developed.

Spain-Russia — Latin America bridge: At the moment it is based on the agreement with the Orión Association (a network operating in Latin America, the Caribbean and Europe) and with CINDA (an Inter-university Development Centre, operating in Latin America). Thus, the agreement that linked Orión with UIB has been renegotiated in the framework of CEI-PM and in this way it has become extensive to the other aggregated institutions. Relations with Argentina, Mexico, Colombia and Brazil should be highlighted, and they will be strengthened in the framework of this action by increasing mobility, and developing  joint Phd and Master’s programmes.  As for Russia, the present relations with several universities in the fields of fluid dynamics, climate change and metheorology, as well as ecology and water quality (CLIMSEAS European Project), will be increased with others favoured by the funding of actions to the establishment of joint qualifications. Eurotowns Universities: Having Girona as its leader, work is being done to consolidate this network (in parallel with the Eurotowns cities network) in order to favour, among member universities, mobility of lecturers, researchers and students, as well as academic and research aggregations, as a continuation of the existing one, Eurotowns University Placement.
