18. F-B7b2, Open call for the use of new technological resources

Description of the action

Over recent years there has been a constant increase in the number of students with special needs accessing university studies. One of the usual adaptations requested is the use a laptop for written tests (exams), a sort of tests that have become more and more frequent in new curricula, as they are considered vital for continuing assessment. The UIB University Support Office offers IT devices to take exams that guarantee equal opportunities with the rest of students. These devices are blocked so that no external resources (USB memory devices, internet, etc.) can be used.

Considering the increase in requests for test adaptation, it is justified to apply for a larger supply of IT equipment, so that handicapped students can take written exams. On the other hand, it is important for the office to have a catalogue of products related to information and communication technology that can be used as a test bench. In this field of technology constant advances are developed and new instruments are created that can be used as support products to facilitate access for handicapped students to academic content.

The most urgent action for UdG is to set up the electrical connection on the first rows of classrooms, so that handicapped students can plug in their mobile devices.
